Astor Piazzolla meets Ennio Morricone in this tango-flavoured project with a twist of spaghetti western. The Tango Saloon celebrate the release of their sophomore effort ‘Transylvania’. The album explores similar sounds and styles to the debut, but also branches off into many other areas. Not so much a horror score, rather a ‘musical postcard’ which of course includes some dark and disturbing sounds, but also manages to throw gypsy brass, cha cha and some wild vocal numbers into the mix.
‘Curwin’s witty tunes are six-shooters that might unexpectedly go off in any direction, including towards the film music of Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, to jazz, or to a happy sort of anarchy.’ - John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald
‘The Tango Saloon is not just a fantastic new take on Tango but a fantastic statement about the modern world, where a bunch of Australians, dressed as Cowboys, play music influenced by European and South American styles, with hints of their domestic country’s musical history, Eastern influence and a major feeling for certain Italian composers - particularly one made most famous by soundtracking Italian versions of American films filmed in Spain. Fantastic.’ - Philip Hoile, Zap! Bang! Magazine
‘This is a soundscape to rattle the bones of the dead’ - Pedro Manoy, Drum Media
