The Barons of Tang have been gigging mercilessly in and around the Australian underground music scene since their immaculate conception at the Adelaide fringe fest of 2007. This Melbourne based 7 piece ensemble are the pioneers of what has been dubbed “gypsy deathcore”, a mash up of traditional Eastern European, Latin, rockabilly and tango sounds, outrageously bastardized by hard hitting guitar riffs, double kick blast beats and massive horn arrangements.

The Tango Saloon released their second album ‘Transylvania’ in June, distributed by Vitamin (following on from their debut which was released in the US by Ipecac Recordings). Astor Piazzolla meets Ennio Morricone in this tango-flavoured project with a twist of spaghetti western, plus everything from gypsy brass to cha cha to experimental electronics.

On The Stoop is a relatively new project from Serge Stanley, founding member of Waiting For Guiness. The music is a chronology of the stranger’s journey to the big apple. Romance, anguish, exuberance, insanity and an overdose of caffeine inform this collection of vaudevillian songs performed by some of Sydney’s best musicians.
