With 5 acts, 12 musicians, 8 hours of live music and a low ticket price of $35, “Persian Pickles” is the best Musical Stimulus Package of 2009! This mega-gig is a celebration of life and love of music with a showcase for Persian musical talent from fresh young stars to popular big ‘names’. The headline act is Ravi – the world premiere live performance of a new combo featuring Pedram and Ali (Pedram Nikaeen – international Persian singer) and Ali Mireskandari (“A young guitarist and singer with an exceptional voice.” – SBS Radio). Other acts include rappers AT+Vex (“We punish the guilty”), special guests Anita (spicy urban funk) and Scandinavian blonde bombshell DJ Linda Jenssen (house, techno, funk, nu-disco & more) plus the soulful acoustic rock of Seina.

6.00 DJ Linda Jenssen
DJ Linda Jenssen mixes so many styles like House (soulful, deep, jackin, tech), techno, dub, funk, soul, electronica, drum’n bass, nu disco, lounge. In Sydney, the list of clubs and bars that she has performed at reads like the who’s-who of the club scene. Just to mention a few of those venue: Bar 333, Aurora Place Bar, Tilbury Hotel, BB’s, Beach Road Hotel, Lady Lux, Tank, The Republic Hotel, Hampshire Hotel, Sahnia, The Cross, The Bunker, The Civic, Bank Hotel, World Bar, Mocean, City Hotel, The Burdekin, Glenmore Hotel, Helm Bar, Cabana, Bondi Icebergs, and many more.

Anita’s been one of Sydney’s most versatile and reliable entertainers over the past 7 years. Fronting a full band or rocking the party with dj’s, her experience in the Sydney music scene extends from soul, funk to world music and hip-hop. All delivered with an authentic knowledge and love for the genres. With a culturally diverse heritage, she throws into the pot a bunch of musical stylings from around the globe, claiming each as her own, sharing and evolving, innovating and and renovating timeless rhythms and harmonies.

9.30 AT & Vex
A.T. (Arash Tayeran) is from Sydney, Vex (Sahba) is from Canada, their unique brand of Hip-Hip and rap is a mix of English and Persian. When we asked Vex what he thought their performance would be like at the festival, he replied “like fireworks!”
10.30 Ravi
Ravi are the headline act of the festival. Ravi is a new Persian band from Sydney. Ali Mireskandari, has lived in Sydney most of his life and has worked with some of Australia’s best musicians. Pedram Nikaeen, arrived from Iran only 8 months ago. He has worked with some of Iran’s best underground Rock/Pop musicians. Their brand of Persian Rock/Pop will change the face of Persian music as we know it.
