Belgian chanteuse Micheline Van Hautem has captivated audiences around the world with her smouldering versions of the songs of fellow countryman Jacques Brel.
Layer by layer, Micheline delves into Brel’s poetry and passion to inhabit its core of love and longing, Belgian-born Brel, one of the 20th century’s greatest chansonniers, channeled the light and dark of the human soul, writing memorable songs such as Ne Me Quitte Pas, The Port of Amsterdam, Seasons in the Sun, Mathilde, Marieke, Bruxelles and many others.
In this show Brel with Chocolat, Micheline selects a cannon of her Brel favorites and interweaves with couple of songs from her own collaborations with Tim Finn and virtuoso guitarist Erwin van Ligten.
Micheline has played to packed houses at the Edinburgh Festival (winning a prestigous Herald Angel Award), Sydney Opera House, two sell out seasons at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and recently completed a 60 date European tour with Jacques’ nephew and keeper of the Brel flame, Bruno Brel.
