After their debut, unplugged performance in a disused tunnel just over a year ago, followed by another underground event in the basement of the old AWA building, The Side Project very quickly rose to the surface of Sydney’s indie music scene. Two of their songs made it into the top 25 of the Triple J Unearthed indie charts. ‘What Next?’ reached the No 2 spot on Reverbnation.
They have since gone on to wow audiences and win new fans at the Oxford Art Factory and Sydney Livehouse. Featuring the raucous and sometimes melancholic, guitar riffs of singer/songwriter/guitarist Matt Johnson, the rich soulful voice and unpretentious heart-felt performance of Cassandra Jamcotchian, the funky, syncopated bass lines of Adam Stern, and the solid, driving rhythms of drummer Colin Sevitt. The Side Project is best described as an eclectic mix of indie, rock, funk and country. With unpredictable melodies, powerful chord progressions and lyrics full of raw, emotional intensity, The Side Project reaches out and makes you feel something.
