Freshly crowned as the new king of EDM, Skrillex is ready to send his Australian fans into a frenzy with one massive all ages Sydney headline show at The Enmore Theatre! Touring as part of the Future Music Festival and off the back of his three Grammy wins, Future Entertainment is proud to announce this very special appearance, ably supported by 19 year old wunderkind producer Porter Robinson.
Hailing from California, former front man for From First To Last, Skrillex (aka Sonny Moore), has been taking Dubstep fans around the world to heaven and back since first embarking on a glittering solo career back in 2007. The genius behind gritty low slingers like ‘Weekends!!!’, ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’, ‘First of the Year’ and ‘Ruffneck’, and three attention- grabbing EPs (‘My Name is Skrillex’, the grammy award winning, ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ and ‘More Monsters and Sprites’); this talented artist has remixed household names like Snoop Dogg and Lady Gaga and even found time to launch his own label, OWSLA. Fusing Dubstep seamlessly with Electro House and Fidget House, Skrillex is carving a name for himself deep and proud.
The music industry has started to take notice as well! One of the major winners at The 54th Annual Grammy Awards held yesterday in Los Angeles, Skrillex was nominated for five trophies including Best New Artist. He took home three awards awards for Best Dance Recording (‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’) and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical (Benny Benassi’s ‘Cinema (Skrillex Remix)’). He also beat out Deadmau5, David Guetta, and Cut Copy in electronic music’s biggest category, Best Dance/Electronica Album. “This is really crazy for me, man,” Skrillex enthused, accepting the award for Best Remixed Recording. “I made this song in my bedroom when I was living illegally in a warehouse in downtown L.A. I made that song with a blown speaker.” The modest winner continued to pay his respects to the dance artists who paved the way for the current crop of EDM stars, including Justice and Daft Punk. “Everyone in the [electronic dance music] community, this means a lot to us,” he said. “There’s a lot of people who have been here before us.”
2012 is already shaping up to be a defining year for Skrillex’s career. Having just been crowned by the BBC as one of their Sounds of 2012, Moore has also recently dropped his latest release, the Bangarang EP featuring collaborations with The Doors, Ellie Goulding, Wolfgang Gartner, 12th Planet, Kill The Noise, and Sirah as well as a short film detailing his life on the road with the Mothership Tour. With his mesmerizing live show, audiences had better get set as the Skrillex juggernaut prepares to take The Enmore Theatre by storm! Joining him on the night will be up and coming producer Porter Robinson. Hailing from North Carolina, Robinson is a rising star in the dubstep scene, having already remixed Lady Gaga and graced stages internationally alongside the biggest names in music, such as Tiesto, Deadmau5, Afrojack, Moby and ATrak. With a skillfulness belying his age, Porter has rapidly ascended the ranks of the international electronic music scene, captivating audiences with his ability to skillfully blend genres into his own unique sound that’s complex yet catchy, and classic yet cutting edge. He counts Skrillex as one of his biggest fans and was recruited to join his label, which released his debut EP Spitfire in September 2011. The EP amply demonstrates his masterful eclecticism, spanning across moods of electro house, dubstep, moombahton and even trance, and including remixes from Knife Party, Kill The Noise and others.
