Saturday the 28th of January will see the sophomore Old Mate’s Block Party held at the Factory in Marrickville.

Last year in an open letter to music fans, we vented our frustrations about the media’s perception of Sydney’s live scene, urging them not to buy into “the unfounded chicken-little claims of “The scene is dying!”” from journos who have never been to a gig in their life, and encouraging punters to get off their asses and actually go and see what’s going on. Fast forward a year and as a result, whilst the frustrations are still there (thanks for that extra half hour Casino Mike, that’ll make a biiiiig difference), the perceptions most changed were our own.

We attend gigs as often as we can averaging 2-3 week and as a result, we’ve seen some incredible bands in 2016.

Impassioned by the incredible quality kicking on about the place we’ve decided to throw this party again to help showcase the ludicrous talent Sydney (and some of Melb) has in the underbelly that lots of us may have missed. Last year completely sold out, in spite of the impromptu monsoon, and we took that as a sign that you people really do give a damn!

So thank you!
