A.B. ORIGINAL is the collaboration between Briggs (Album of the Year recipient at the National Indigenous Music Awards 2015) and Trials, multi-ARIA Award winning producer for Drapht, Illy, Hilltop Hoods, Seth Sentry and Mo’Ju to name a few.

A.B. ORIGINAL was conceived when the two artists were invited to perform at triple j’s 40 year celebration, Beat The Drum, in January 2015. They produced a short but powerful set which also included the special performance of ‘The Hunt’, a collaboration with the late Gurrummul, performed earlier on triple j’s live at the wireless.

They write songs in the spirit of N.W.A and West Side Connection, while lyrically bringing attention to issues closer to home. Respectively coming from the Yorta Yorta and Ngarrindjeri tribes, Briggs and Trials are socially conscious outspoken Indigenous artists. They bring a new voice to Australian and indeed world wide hip hop, as A.B. Original.

Their debut album ‘RECLAIM AUSTRALIA’ was released in 2016 via Golden Era Records and Bad Apples Music, Australia’s first Indigenous hip hop label.

A.B. ORIGINAL were one of the biggest break out artists of 2017 with ‘RECLAIM AUSTRALIA’ winning 2017 – Triple J Album of the Year; 2017 ARIA Best Urban Album AND Independent Release; 2017 Australian Music prize and multiple 2017 AIR Awards (including Best Independent and Best Hip Hop Album Awards); and the ongoing success of their critically acclaimed single ‘JANUARY 26’ (National Indigenous Music Awards 2017 Song of the Year).

Since the release of their debut album, A.B. ORIGINAL have appeared at a number of live events including; BigSound Keynote presentation and interview; MC and key performer at Laneway 2017; and support act for – 50cent Australian tour; Hilltop Hoods Australian tour; Midnight Oil and a special live performance with Paul Kelly at the 2017 ARIA Awards.

Finally, A.B. ORIGINAL were honored by APRA AMCOS in 2018 as the 2018 APRA Music Songwriter of the year. A chapter closes as they go into the studio to write their highly anticipated sophomore album.
