The class will cover the basics of in-camera physical special effects and pyrotechnics and how to get the most out of them for your shoot. Topics will include budgeting and on-set safety, wind, rain, fire, water, explosions, smoke and fog, breakaway props, pyrotechnic sparks, electrical effects, bullet hits etc. The basic principles and typical set-ups for these effects will be explained along with how to use them best and what limitations to be aware of when planning your scenes.

BIOGRAPHY:

John Sanderson

John Sanderson lives in Castlemaine, Victoria, and has 20 years’ experience in physical special effects after commencing work with effects company One Take Wonders in Melbourne in 1995. He has worked on a variety of Australian television programs including Blue Heelers, Good News Week, Mad as Hell and Anzac Girls and most recently worked on the low-budget feature “Innuendo”. He is a qualified engineer with a history of innovative solutions, novel devices and new product development in variety of fields and holds patents in Australia, USA, China and Europe. He loves the process of film-making, and enjoys the creation of novel effects, devices and props to suit unique production challenges.
