Reality is a film so brain-meltingly surreal that it makes Being John Malkovich look like an episode of Play School by comparison. After his 2010 cult classic Rubber, (a film about a car tyre that goes on a killing spree in the America desert, which if you haven’t seen, you must) Quentin Dupieux’s, ‘Reality’ simply defies summation. The film tells the story of Jason, a quiet cameraman who dreams of directing his first horror movie. Jason is granted financing for the film on one condition: he has 48 hours to find the best scream in the history of cinema. During his search, he gradually gets lost in a nightmarishly complex labyrinth of multiple realities from which he cannot seem to escape. Forget Inception; this absurdist movie-within-a-movie-within-possibly-a-dream-within-another-movie will stay with you long after you leave the cinema.
