Erica (Amanda Fuller) is a woman of the fairly damaged sort. She lives in the local co-op and spends her evenings cruising Austin’s bars and beds for the night.
Nate (Noah Taylor) is a local, mysterious man working in a hardware store. Recently discharged from serving in Iraq with a ‘honourable discharge’. Nate is a different kind of creepy, and Erica likes that.
Franki is a wannabe rock musician. His relationship with his girlfriend is on the rocks, his sickly mother requires constant care and his band can’t seem to find its way out of the garage. During one drunken night of debauchery, he crosses paths with Erica and ‘shares’ her with his buddies. The encounter is enough to send Franki’s world into a tailspin and take Erica and Nate with him.
With stunning performances by Noah Taylor and Amanda Fuller, Red White and Blue is an unashamedly tough and uncompromising movie, a gut-wrenching romance and a merciless exploration of the futility of violence. It explores a part of our psyche that we often find hard to acknowledge and the movie shines a light on the multi-coloured dark side of American life.
