Ma Jun: Former renowned football commentator | Ex-teacher at New Oriental and former reporter for Phoenix TV | Champion of the 2nd "Wang Zha" National Stand-up Comedy Competition | Runner-up in the variety show "Open Mic Overall Champion" | Probably the current stand-up comedian with the roundest face (?) | A decade-long professional writer | Regular host of the podcast "No Joke"
This time, he's coming to Australia with full sincerity, bringing his two specials, Life is Short, No Time for Bullsht* and Drink 'Til You Drop! Get double the happiness with both specials for just $40!
About Life is Short, No Time for Bullsht:*
Offstage, Ma Jun is a tech employee and longtime football fan who watches and plays football. Onstage, he's a stand-up comedian and "off-pitch advisor" who loves and talks about the game. With his unique perspective and vivid impersonations, Ma Jun recreates his observations, delivering performances that hit the audience's funny bone directly. Through his casual chats and stories, this (possibly) China's first football-themed stand-up comedy special was born.
While it's themed around football, as you know, in certain contexts, "Chinese football" is often unofficially categorized under "comedy."
If you love football, you're welcome to come and share the thoughts, curiosities, and amusing stories of a "veteran fan" about commentators, fan culture, cheerleaders, and more. If you "hate" football, you're welcome to come and observe the emotions and perspectives of a "veteran fan" enduring the dramatic ups and (mostly) downs of Chinese football. If you feel neither love nor hate for football, don't watch it, and don't understand it—no problem! Judging by the most direct feeling stand-up comedy gives the audience—"being funny"—whether you watch football or not, understand it or not, Life is Short, No Time for Bullsht* is absolutely a hilarious and highly-praised stand-up comedy special.
Life is short, so why stress? Better come listen to some stand-up.
About Drink 'Til You Drop:
Drink 'Til You Drop is Ma Jun's second special created since he started performing stand-up comedy. It tells the story of a man in his 30s (from the post-80s generation), how he struggles with the world, and how he eventually makes peace with it. It's quite entertaining. Ma Jun believes everyone can relate to his experiences and is confident he can bring you joy.
Compared to his previous special, this one has a bit more food for thought and a stronger aftertaste. It's a special with a hint of that jiangxiang aroma—so sit back and enjoy!
