Friday June 6th, grab your flannel and Doc Martens or track jackets and tambourines for the ultimate live 90s rock celebration: BRITPOP VS GRUNGE Presented by Sydney’s premier tributes, BritPop90s and The Grunge Show.
On opposite sides of the pond, two goliath eras of rock music defined the 90s; the Seattle grunge sound of the early-90s and UK’s Britpop of the mid-90s. Both movements had their roots in rebellion, upsetting the social order and pushback against the excess of the 1980s, but unlike many musical rivals, they never directly crossed over. In the spirit of Noel and Liam, let’s have at it!
In 1991 Nirvana released their generation defining album, Nevermind. For three years, Nirvana, along with the rest of the Seattle scene were an unstoppable musical force with a choke hold on culture. However, by the time Oasis’s landmark 1994 album Definitely Maybe exploded into the mainstream Kurt Cobain was no longer with us, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were evolving into a broader rock sound and Alice In Chains were AWOL. The hyper mania of grunge had come to a fizzle and the torch was passed to the stadium rock aspirations of the Britpop empire.
On Friday June 6th at The Factory Floor, two of Sydney’s most prominent tribute bands BritPop90s and The Grunge Show are coming together for a night of non stop 90s rock action! You will be treated to 3 hours of music from both bands presented in a ‘tit for tat’ format, with each band performing multiple sets, playing off of each other in a way that celebrates both styles of music. There will be cameos, there will be visuals, and this will be one huge night where fans can relive the best of both genres!
Here we are now, to entertain you and live forever!
